Optimum ergonomics
The Genesis serves as a prime example for intuitive usability, functionality and clever design.Tighter body gaps
The Genesis 4.6 reveals narrower gaps between panels than either the 2008 BMW 750i, 2008 Lexus LS460 or 2008 Mercedes S550.Safety is no accident:
What happens in an accident isn't accidental at all. The Genesis-with more standard safety features than a 2008 BMW 550i or 750i.Engineers know where the Genesis will crumple, fold, absorb, brace and stay firm. The Genesis is about more than just filling a car with safety features, its about freezing a moment of destruction and painting a masterpiece in protection.
Stop. Dodge. Prevent.
The old adage the safest accident is one that never happens has been taken to heart. Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control System5 and tires with superior grip function to help prevent every avoidable accident by keeping you nimble and in control.
Redirecting the crash
Crumple zones in the Genesis steer and dissipate the force from a crash to where itll cause the least harm.
Thinking through the unthinkable
If the worst happens, you have the reassurance of eight airbags cushioning you inside of a body strategically enforced with ultrahigh-strength steel. As well as more advanced safety features like Electronic Active Front Head Restraints that protect against whiplash by instantly pressing the head restraints forward in a rear impact. A futuristic feature youll find standard on the Genesis.
Who is AMCI?
AMCI is the nation's leading independent vehicle testing company-credibly, objectively certifying automotive manufacturers' advertising claims for more than 25 years.Their unchallenged test procedures are used globally.
Driveline: Performance parts are championed by the available 375-horsepower 4.6L V8 Tau™ engine. All driveline pieces working together to efficiently pull big power while providing best-in-class fuel economy.
Suspension and steering: Taut front and rear five-link suspensions were modified to match the more assertive American driving style. Yet next-generation Sachs Amplitude Selective Dampers (ASD) and aluminum components ensure that the ride quality doesn't suffer for it.
Body, glass and structure: High- and ultrahigh-strength steel frames function beyond safety, improving performance and comfort by resisting torsion and letting the suspension systems maintain full control. Structural bonding and spot welds make the car both stronger and lighter. All while managing a 0.27 drag coefficient, one of the lowest in the industry.
Interior: Just as much thought goes into what's in the cabin as what's under the hood. The car is tested for optimal ergonomics. Making the Genesis a car that's tactile, thoughtful and loaded with luxury. An experience highlighted by a 528-watt Lexicon® Discrete 7.1 surround sound system, a brand used exclusively by Rolls-Royce. Until now.
Electrical: The electrical system in a car is like its central nervous system. If it's not functioning at its best, everything suffers. In the Genesis, this system runs on high-speed fiber optics, ensuring instant response from electrical synapses.
Waterfall grille: Continually refined to bring visual unity and identity to the car.
Airbags: Eight airbags to help protect passengers in the event of an accident.
HID headlights: Casts a higher-contrast light that's more like natural daylight for improved visibility.
Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) fiber-optic wiring: Faster transfer of information among the car's control modules.
Crash box: Let's the Genesis take the hits to protect the passengers.
Two-box section side members: Two tiers of impact absorption for enhanced rear passenger protection.
Ring structure: Increases body stiffness and side-impact protection.
Adhesive bonding material: Over 260 feet of bonding that dramatically increases rigidity without increasing weight.
Cast stainless steel exhaust manifolds: Lighter weight and faster warm-up than typical manifolds, leading to lower emissions.
Aluminum hood: Lowers weight over the front axle for better handling and agility.
Underbody covers: A well-built car smoothes airflow under the engine. The Genesis manages airflow along the entire length of the underbody.
Sealed fenders: A common source of car noise is air tearing across the side mirrors. Airtight seals just ahead of the doors cut down on turbulence to eliminate this noise.
Cabin sound dampeners: Sound and vibration dampening measures quiet the car both when it's in motion and when it's stopped.
Quiet fan blades: Specially shaped fan blades minimize noise when the cooling fan is in operation.
Steel silent timing chain: By altering the shape of the links in the timing chain and the sprockets, Genesis was able to create a quieter chain with increased durability.
Resonator boxes: Tunes the sound of air as it comes through the intake, resulting in more palatable tones.
Aluminum suspension links: Lightweight links dramatically improve ride quality and handling.
Sound-insulating windshield and front door glass: Eliminates much of the noise in the 2–8 kHz range that the human ear finds especially grating.
Rubber isolated front and rear subframes: Acoustically isolates the suspension from the body to keep road noise from making it to the cabin.
Hydraulically isolated differential: Reduces the high-pitched whine sometimes associated with a rear-wheel drive layout.
Electro-hydraulic power steering: By driving the power steering pump with an electric motor, the Tau V8's efficiency improves by 2.7%.
ZF transmission: An unconventional low-slip design reduces the power losses due to friction inherent in most automatic transmissions.
Five-link front and rear suspension: Five links front and rear work to reduce what's known as bump-steer—meaning the Genesis will continue arrow straight unless you command it to do otherwise.
Aluminum front suspension mounts: Reduces flexing to improve precision.
Fixed four-piston front brake calipers: More pistons means more balanced pressure against the brake pads delivering stronger braking and improved brake pedal feel.
ZF steering rack: It would be easy to cut costs on parts that don't generally make press or appear in brochures, but Genesis engineers insisted that even the steering rack comes from a standout name in components manufacturing.
Sachs Amplitude Selective Damping (ASD): Large wheels often compromise ride quality. These next-generation dampers minimize the road's imperfections to ensure there are no compromises.
True dual exhaust: Many cars today have dual exhaust tips, but not necessarily two exhaust paths. They split the pipes at the rear of the car for cosmetic purposes. In the Genesis, what you see is what you get.
Cold air intake: The large displacement engine in the Genesis inhales air from above the radiator, rather than behind it, for more power and response—especially as speeds increase.
Intake boundary filter: A second permanent foam filter in the intake system smoothes air turbulence for better combustion.
Variable Intake System: Enlarges itself at high rpm for better breathing.
Dual CVVT: Optimizes valve timing over a wider scope of engine speeds for greater engine power and efficiency.
Large windows: An unfortunate recent automotive trend is style over smarts, such as dwarfish frames with short windows. The Genesis bucks industry convention with expansive windows that offer noticeably improved visibility.
Crumple zone: Helps steer and dissipate the forces from a crash to where they cause the least harm.
Eco-filter: Designed so that only the actual filter needs to be disposed of rather than the container and the filter. Dramatically reducing its environmental footprint.
Finned differential cover: Finned design lets air flow across more surface area, keeping temperatures low and increasing longevity.
